Like any other drug, the injectable known as Trasylol will affect different people in different ways. Although Trasylol side effects can vary from person to person, recent medical studies have linked the drug to troublesome conditions such as strokes, kidney failure, and heart attacks. Unfortunately, these side effects can be fatal in extreme cases.
Trasylol Death
Trasylol is designed to prevent excessive bleeding in CABG patients, but the use of this medication has resulted in death for some patients. A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that the risk of death is increased by nearly 50 percent in patients who are administered Trasylol instead of alternative medications. Trasylol death is an unfortunate and unnecessary complication because there are alternative drugs available that are nearly as effective and do not cause harmful side effects.
Trasylol Heart Attacks
Trasylol heart attacks have been receiving extensive attention since the New England Journal of Medicine published a report in January 2006 that was critical of Trasylol use. The drug can cause severe coronary complications, and the risk of heart attack is increased by nearly 50 percent amount patients receiving Trasylol instead of an alternative medication. Due to this heightened health hazard, the FDA has recommended that physicians only administer Trasylol in cases that absolutely warrant it use.
Trasylol Strokes
The link between Trasylol and strokes is alarming. Some clinical research has reported the risk of stroke increasing by over 180 percent in patients given Trasylol. Although neurological complications had been reported in Trasylol users before, the risk of Trasylol strokes is significant enough that the Food and Drug Administration is currently reviewing research on the drug in an effort to determine its safety.
Trasylol Kidney Failure
It is estimated that at least 10,000 people have experienced Trasylol kidney failure and currently receive dialysis. Kidney failure is a debilitating condition, and scientific studies have reported increases in kidney failure by as much as 50 percent among patients who have been administered Trasylol. These unfortunate individuals are faced with a long-term and potentially life threatening ailment that is painful and expensive to treat.
