School Violence
Our nation’s schools are supposed to be safe places where children and adolescents feel secure to learn. Tragically, however, violence and danger has become nearly epidemic and hazing, shootings, and assaults have created an environment that is more dangerous than in any time in history. This plague of violence – whether from intimidating bullies or potentially deadly perpetrators – can leave children without a safe haven and without the opportunity to grow and flourish in a secure environment.
Assaults on school campuses have become all too common, and in 2001 almost 2 million children were the victims of violent crimes and thefts. More ominously, there were at least 32 violent deaths that were school-related between July of 1999 and June of 2000. Tragically, 24 of these deaths were murders and at least 16 of the fatalities involved children between the ages of five and eighteen.
There are a number of negligent parties that should be held accountable for the violence perpetrated against a child in a school or other learning institution. These schools have an inherent duty to protect the children that attend there, and administrators and other education professionals have a responsibility to become aware of potentially dangerous students or situations and need to help protect student safety in any manner necessary.
If your child has suffered from school violence, you have legal rights. It’s important to contact a knowledgeable attorney with experience in these particular matters so that someone can be held accountable for this type of dangerous negligence. No child should be fearful of attending school. Let a compassionate school violence lawyer help you protect your child today.
