Risperdal is an atypical antipsychotic intended to treat a number of delusional psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. It is called "atypical" because unlike earlier medications it was supposed to reduce or eliminate many of the common side effects such as tremors, muscle problems, and the dreaded tardive dyskinesia, a condition that causes random muscle spasms.

Unfortunately, one unexpected side effect of Risperdal was the significant increase in the number of diabetes-related incidents in some patients. Doctors suspect that Risperdal interferes with the way the body processes insulin, which in turn causes blood sugar to rise to a point where it can cause blindness, coma, and even death. Many people who were prescribed Risperdal for off-label uses did not realize the dangers of the drug until too late.

If you or someone you know developed diabetes or diabetic-like conditions due to Risperdal you need to consult with a dedicated and experienced attorney immediately. Depending on your situation you may be entitled to compensation for your pain and suffering. Contact an attorney today.
