The Whistleblower Protection Act of 1989 is a federal law that allows federal employees to bring attention to fraud perpetrated by a government contractor or supplier. Unlike other forms of Qui Tam, this act allows government employees to directly pursue justice on behalf of the government, for any abuse of the government is abuse of us all. These brave people fulfill the notion outlined by the Code of Ethics for Government Service when they "put loyalty to the highest moral principles and to (put) country above loyalty to persons, party or Government department."
Basically the Whistleblower Protection Act outlines a number of law and procedures for people to take action against fraudulent businesses in an orderly, timely, and safe manner. It regulates the amount of evidence, designates the proper authorities, and also sets up protections against disgruntled people abusing of the law to seek revenge upon their previous organizations. More and more states are adopting their own versions of the Whistleblower Protection Act, so if you are an employee of the state it would be wise to understand the specific laws before you embark on such a dramatic course of action.
If you know of fraudulent activities, you have an obligation to your country and your fellow taxpayers to take a stand. The Whistleblower Protection Act is there to protect and encourage you to make your voice hear without fear of retribution. Honest people like you need to take the first step and report impropriety. It is also important to understand that in addition to the satisfaction serving your country many whistleblowers are entitled to between 10 and 30% any settlement. Make a stand and do what is right for your country. Contact us today.
