The Mifeprex pill is commonly referred to as the abortion pill or the RU486 pill and was first introduced to the American marketplace in 2000 after approval by the FDA. The drug works by blocking a hormone and when followed two days later by another medication known as misoprostol to induce contractions, the pregnancy is terminated. Tragically, the abortion-inducing medication has been linked to seven American fatalities and one Canadian death since then. In fact, statistics would indicate that nearly one out of every 200,000 women using the Mifeprex pill could die.
Mifeprex was implicated in three ruptured ectopic pregnancies, one of which lead to the death of the woman. Two more users came down with major bacterial infections, leading to yet another fatality. Another incident linked a heart attack to usage, and a condition called septic shock is a problem that has lead to death in Mifeprex use worldwide.
One of the reasons that Mifeprex has so many potential dangers is that there is often no warning that the drug is causing such profound harm and women have been turned away from emergency care because the problem wasn't immediately observable. Also, a death in Iowa was linked to an incomplete abortion caused by Mifeprex use.
Without adequate consultation and observation, Mifeprex can be an extraordinarily dangerous medication. If you or a loved one suffered from these types of frightening situations and suffered serious injury, you have rights under the law. Financial compensation can't take away the emotional and physical anguish, but it can help to offset escalating medical expenses and provide the closure that you deserve.
