The drug known as Ketek is a potent antibiotic that exploded in popularity after FDA approval in 2004 for the treatment of dangerous bacterial infections like chronic bronchitis, bacterial sinusitis, and exposure-related pneumonia.  Because Ketek was not designed to treat viral infections, patients are told to look at other options if their problem is virus-related.

Unfortunately, the benefits of Ketek are being overshadowed by serious and potentially deadly side effects allegedly caused by the drug.  In fact, in January of 2006, the medication was linked to three instances of Ketek liver failure in three patients in a hospital in North Carolina.  The FDA is now investigating further problems relating to the liver that weren’t diagnosed or reported properly, and the agency issued a public health advisory in light of the new allegations.

The severity of Ketek liver damage in certain patients lead health practitioners at Carolinas Medical Center to investigate further.  One of these patients died after Ketek use, one needed a liver transplant, and the last developed a severe case of hepatitis.  Interestingly, the hepatitis in this patient went away after Ketek use was discontinued. Although there has been no FDA Ketek recall, many doctors have begun to adivise against prescribing it due to potential Ketek liver lawsuits. These injured people should consider Ketek side effect lawsuits.

If you or a loved one was injured by Ketek side effects, you are not alone.  When consumer safety is jeopardized in such an unjust way, Ketek lawsuits can be a good option for securing financial compensation and holding pharmaceutical companies accountable for their negligence.  Don’t wait for the Ketek lawsuit statutes of limitations to expire before you get what you deserve - speak with an experienced Ketek lawyer today.
