The drug called Epogen is used to treat the anemia that can be caused by chemotherapy and kidney dialysis, two procedures that can inhibit the bone marrow's production of red blood cells. Without these red blood cells being properly formed, the tissues of the body become starved of oxygen and begin to die. Epogen helps the body create new red blood cells, and the medication produced by Amgen Inc. is now one of the leading anemia drugs on the market today.

Unfortunately, reports have recently surfaced showing that Epogen users are more likely to develop several serious and potentially deadly side effects from the medication. One of the most serious of these is linked to the use of the drug in patients with pure red blood cell aplasia, or PRCA. This condition causes the bone marrow to be attacked by the white blood cells in the body, and the use of Epogen in conjunction with PRCA can make the problem substantially worse.

Just as ominously, the use of Epogen can cause dangerous blood clots to form in the lungs and veins, which can infiltrate the bloodstream and hit the heart or brain, causing heart attacks, strokes, and sometimes kidney failure. Some patients reported frightening seizures during the first three months of treatment with Epogen, and some failed to receive any benefit at all.

If you are one of the countless people affected by the dangerous consequences of Epogen use, don't hesitate to explore your legal options. A victory in court could help you secure financial compensation to offset expensive medical bills and make up for your extensive physical and emotional suffering, but you have to act quickly. Statutes of limitations could expire, leaving you without an opportunity to have your voice heard. Don't wait - call an experienced defective drug attorney today.

The law firm of Steigerwalt & Associates is here to help victims of defective drugs throughout the country.
