NEWS UPDATE: March 13,2007

The FDA has issued a warning that taking any sleeping pills like Ambien may cause one to suffer an odd side effect called Sleep-Driving. This is very similar to sleep walking but with an auto.

The FDA has said that new labels should be issued to illustrate this known side effect.

The medication known as Ambien is one of the most in demand sleep medications on the planet today.  While it has received praise for its help with sleep issues such as insomnia, stories have emerged that show the medication is implicated in several serious side effects, such as sleepwalking, driving while asleep, binge eating, and eating while asleep.  Ambien use has also lead to more next-day vehicle accidents than other sleeping pills.

One of the more perplexing and downright disturbing effects of the drug is the tendency towards sleepwalking and the performance of activities while asleep.  Patients with a history of walking in their sleep are more susceptible to these risks, and more women are affected than men.  This experience of performing things while asleep poses particular dangers in some situations.

Another dangerous consequence of Ambien use is the potential for short-term memory loss that happens to some users while they are taking the drug.  One particularly harrowing report of this effect is a Boston physician who could not recall the experience of advising his resident team on their rounds the morning after taking the sleep aid.  In circumstances like these, the dangerous effects of the drug could prove catastrophic.

If you or a loved one is suffering from unexpected and potentially devastating effects of Ambien usage, make sure to talk with a qualified legal professional as soon as possible.  An experienced defective drug attorney can help you fight for answers and can help you secure a potential compensation for your physical and emotional anguish.  Don’t wait for statutes of limitations to expire – call an Ambien lawyer now.

The law firm of Steigerwalt & Associates is here to help victims of defective drugs throughout the country.
